This piece is a reconstruction based on workwear
produced by department store brands in the 1950s.

Featuring Nara Sumi (ink), a traditional craft with a 1,300-year history.
Y'2 LEATHER has expressed Japan’s traditional dyeing culture through leather
in this meticulously crafted horsehide.
Finished in a deep jet black, this leather has a unique look
that is quite different from standard black leather!
The leather is crafted using a technically difficult process where the core is dyed "saddle" color,
then both the grain and suede sides are dyed with Sumi ink.
Hidden beneath the black lies a different color
This is what makes the Sumi-black horsehide so interesting♬
As you wear it, scuffs and friction will cause the black surface to gradually fade,
revealing the saddle-colored base underneath.
This creates a contrast between the black and the saddle color,
resulting in a unique look that varies depending on the wearer.
Another fun part is how the tone changes as you apply oil to the revealed saddle areas,
or as the leather develops a natural patina from sun exposure♬
