Tiki has been worshipped as an incarnation of god on many Polynesian islands.

Even in Hawaii, where it was believed that gods dwelled in everything that exists in nature,the existence of Tiki was special, and it appeared time and again as a motif in Aloha shirts.

Among these, designs with Tiki as the main motif are often seenafter the 1960s, when the Polynesian boom was at its peak.

The earliest designs were discharge-printed in a single color on filament fabric, and are extremely rare.
