The design was created by Triple Times California, a Japanese fabric trading company that has been involved in the import and export of various fabrics since the 1950s.

At the time, this was one of the printed fabrics exported to the US mainland, and was printed in Kyoto to order from the company's design office in New York.

This unique design, which is unforgettable once seen, is recorded to have been drawn by the female chief designer who oversaw the designers working in the office.

This fabric was brought to the US mainland from Kyoto in the 1970s and was mainly produced as scarves, with very few aloha shirts ever made.

Using a technique known as mirror printing, which was a precursor to transfer printing, the motifs are beautifully depicted using many colors.

The design is based on the warrior mask worn by Polynesian tribes.
