ATTRACTIONS x Hasami Ware A20033W Skull Mug White Mug Skull Skull Mug Hasami Ware Limited Edition Pottery Ceramic Stone Interior Stylish
The third installment of the Hasami ware skull mug series.
This time, it's a limited edition white & white coloring.
This ceramic product is the result of our own research and development, based on vintage skull mugs with a rare structure that were produced in Japan for export to the US starting in the 1950s.
It was completed after more than three years of trial and error, with the cooperation of Kikushou Touki, a Hasami ware kiln.
Even today, the unique expression and special double-layered structure make mass production extremely difficult, demonstrating the high level of Japanese craftsmanship 70 years ago.
Uses porcelain made from pottery stone.
Unlike earthenware, which is made from clay and called "earthware," porcelain is made from stone and called "stoneware."
It is the hardest among ceramics and has the characteristic of being non-absorbent.
Its appeal lies in its glass-like transparency and its hard, smooth texture.
MOLDING & SHAPING
Forming the body.
Pouring slip, the porcelain material, into a plaster mold and rotating it on a turntable to remove excess slip.
DEWATERING & BISCUITFIRING
Biscuit firing is the process of firing the clay at a low temperature of around 800 degrees Celsius to give it a certain strength and prevent excessive shrinkage during the main firing.
To prevent cracks and breakage, the clay is thoroughly dried for a long time before biscuit firing.
GLAZING & GLOST FIRING
Dipping in glaze, which vitrifies with heat, increases water resistance after firing and creates the translucent luster characteristic of porcelain.
Since porcelain clay contains many components that transform into highly heat-resistant glass, the main firing is carried out over a long period using a reduction firing method that reaches high temperatures of over 1300 degrees Celsius.
FIRING
Biscuit firing, main firing, and overglaze firing each require different kiln temperature adjustments and firing times, thus demanding years of experience, concentration, and endurance under high temperatures.
It is a demanding and delicate process unique to potters.
The fact that each piece has a different pattern after firing is one of the interesting aspects of this product, and it is also recommended as an item for display with multiple pieces arranged together.
