BUZZ RICKSON'S BR12266 Type M-51 “BUZZ RICKSON CLOTHES” M-51 Parka U.S. ARMY

The M-51 parka evolved from the pullover-style M-48 parka, which had been developed since World War II, and was primarily issued to U.S. Army soldiers in the cold regions during the Korean War.

As this battlefield was colder than anything the U.S. military had ever experienced, a layering system was adopted, where the parka was worn over regular equipment.

The shell of the initial model (1951) was made of heavy cotton sateen fabric, but models from 1952 onwards were changed to cotton-nylon oxford fabric to review costs and reduce weight.

The cuffs have an internal rubber strap adjuster belt to enhance sealing, and the pocket linings use warm wool material.
