BUZZ RICKSON'S BR15345 Type N-1 Khaki "NAVY DEPARTMENT DEMOTEX-ED" N-1 Khaki Deck Jacket, Jungle Cloth Alpaca Mohair Military Jacket, US Navy, Cold Weather
The N-1 deck jacket, paired with trousers made of the same material, was adopted by the U.S. Navy for use by ship crews from World War II through the Korean War .
The outer material is cotton grosgrain, commonly known as "jungle cloth," just like other deck jackets , and the lining is made of alpaca mohair wool pile, which has excellent wind resistance and heat retention.
The navy blue model of the N-1 was adopted in 1944, and the khaki model was issued the following year in 1945.
The changes are not limited to the collar, but also include the omission of the alpaca mohair that was sewn inside the cuffs, simplification of the loops on the underarm lining and hem cord, enlargement of the hem cord eyelets, and the positioning of the underarm eyelets, among other notable differences.
