Commonly known as the Tanker jacket, this jacket was originally developed as winter combat clothing for armored units.

On the European front, due to a shortage of winter equipment, it was used not only by armored units but also as a flight jacket, but in 1943 the M1943 field jacket, a multi-purpose combat uniform, was adopted and the winter combat jacket was adopted on a limited basis.

The outer shell is made of water-resistant and wind-resistant cotton twill.

The liner is made of 26 oz wool, and the sides and sleeves are sewn with a twin needle.

The back has pleats on both sides to allow for unrestricted arm movement.

There are two types of this jacket: an early version with patch pockets and a later version with single welt pockets .
