The aircraft carrier USS Lexington was commissioned in 1943 and participated in the Pacific War.

She was temporarily decommissioned after the war, but underwent modernization in the early 1950s and returned as an attack aircraft carrier. In 1962, she became an anti-submarine warfare carrier, with her primary mission being anti-submarine combat.

From June to December 1956, the Lexington was deployed to the Western Pacific as part of the 7th Fleet with the First Air Task Group.

This jacket was specially ordered by one of the soldiers at an embroidery shop when the aircraft carrier Lexington called at Yokosuka during her Far East voyage.

On the front, it can be seen that the ordering US soldier, Marty, was from the Redmond area of Oregon.

The layout on the back, featuring a roseate spoonbill, an eight-ball, and a shovel, is now unknown, but it is a design known only to the person who ordered it, making it a mysterious and intriguing jacket.
