Established in 1918, the 5th Bombardment Squadron "Bomber Barons" is the oldest bombardment squadron in U.S. Air Force history.

It features a hand-painted 5th Bombardment Group emblem and a hand-painted 31st Bombardment Squadron emblem.

Prior to World War II, it was stationed in Hawaii, where it engaged in activities such as training and participating in Army and Navy maneuvers.

In 1935, during the eruption of Mauna Loa volcano, bombs were dropped around the volcano to divert lava away from the city, saving the citizens of Hilo, Hawaii.

The 31st Bombardment Squadron boasts 40 missions with B-17 and B-24 bombers.

The "Lady Luck" painting on the back is a playful and stylish combination of "Ready Luck," meaning to bring good fortune, and "Lady."

Although the jacket is an Army field jacket, regulations were relaxed during wartime, and it was occasionally worn by airmen.
