The Black MA-1 was first produced to commemorate Buzz Rickson's 10th anniversary.

In the novel "Pattern Recognition" by world-renowned author William Gibson, the protagonist is described wearing a "Buzz Rickson’s Black MA-1."

Leaping from the pages of that novel, the actual Buzz Rickson’s Black MA-1 was born.

While the standard regulation color for the U.S. Air Force MA-1 adopted in the 1950s is traditionally Sage Green, an authentic, mil-spec Black MA-1 utilizing military-grade materials did not exist in the world.

As a result, it was very well-received and became a hot topic among discerning customers in the market.

Even when each material is specified to be black, the dye takes differently on each fabric. When assembled into a single jacket, these subtle variations in color become apparent, clearly highlighting the wide variety of different materials that make up a flight jacket.
