BUZZ RICKSON'S BR80649 Type A-1 "AC ORDER No. 31-800P" 1927 A-1 Summer Flight Jacket

The A-1, established in 1927, was produced until 1931, when the A-2 was adopted.

The design dates back to before zippers were in use, so the front is opened and closed with buttons.

The A-1 was made from sheepskin, which is flexible and easy to move in, but is slightly less durable than horsehide or steerhide. As a result, very few examples from that time remain, making it a miraculous jacket to come across.

This A-1 jacket is made from horsehide, which is stronger than sheepskin.

This season, the horsehide has undergone a full vegetable tanning process and is finished with pigments that are relatively resistant to rain and water droplets.

At first, it exudes a heavy, subdued atmosphere, but when worn until the surface coating peels off, it transforms into a rough-looking garment.
