DELUXEWARE 1953XX VINTAGE TAPERED STRAIGHT 13.6oz DRY DENIM

To faithfully reproduce the 1953 double-sided even-V XX model, the most essential requirement is the environment.

When studying history, records of denim and jean manufacturing from that era are limited to mere workwear production processes.

However, by examining other areas of history (dyeing machines, spinning machines, or agriculture), we gained glimpses into the fuel used in dyeing machines, the raw materials for starch, as well as the storage conditions, sewing equipment, and the manufacturing environment.

As you may have realized, the extent to which we can replicate this environment defines a "reproduction jean."

Pattern: Vintage straight. A straight shape with a deep rise and slight taper, along with a roomy thigh width and a classic vintage back style.

A vintage pattern that faithfully extracts the distortions and balance of vintage jeans as they are.

By pursuing the used cotton material down to the fiber level, we found American Memphis cotton that matched the shape and length to use as our weaving yarn. We replicated the changes in coal-powered dyeing machines (where ash from the smoke would mix into the indigo dye vats) by using a blend of dye and charcoal. We applied corn starch, a raw material for starch used since that time, and oven-baked the woven fabric to completely dry it out, successfully recreating the dry, coarse texture characteristic of denim from that era: our "Dry Denim."

Furthermore, we acquired vintage sewing machines from the same era as those used in the sewing factories of the time (Union Special, Singer, Reece, etc.), restored their functions using genuine parts and overhauls, and trained technicians to handle them, completing the environment necessary for this manufacturing reproduction.

This pattern features a straight cut that falls in a straight line from the thigh to the hem, with a tapered cut from the waist for a slimmer fit.

Additionally, it is a one-of-a-kind pattern created with ingenuity to prevent friction, damage, and holes near the inseam, designed with a three-dimensional shape utilizing the side seam selvage.

Through these efforts, the 1953XX is a pair of jeans that faithfully replicates the stitch movement, thread thickness, color count, sewing method, and pattern.
