This piece, reprinted in response to popular demand, is based on the U.S. Army's 25th Infantry Division, "Tropic Lightning," which was formed from the Hawaiian Division in October 1941. The division served as the main force in the Korean War, which broke out in 1950, and this commemorative piece was produced to commemorate their triumphant return to Hawaii from their deployment in Korea in 1953.
The designs include humorous depictions of training scenes at Camp Schofield on Oahu, where they served, as well as scenes on the battlefield.
Along with General MacArthur's rank insignia, the monument is also inscribed with the words "OLD SOLDIERS NEVER DIE," which he spoke in his farewell speech in 1951.

Shortly after its formation in 1941, the division guarded Oahu and the Hawaiian Islands, and participated in the fighting in the Solomon Islands and then Guadalcanal.
The unit also played an active role in the Iraq War and the Afghanistan conflict in the 2000s, and has made numerous achievements as a unit that carries out important missions within the U.S. Army.
The division also plays a central role in the 1986 film "Platoon," directed by Vietnam veteran Oliver Stone.
