Hokusai's series of flower and bird paintings with auspicious themes.

In addition to "Turtle," other works include "Hawk on Cherry Blossoms," "Carp Climbing a Waterfall," "Crane on Snow-capped Pine Trees," and "Horse Pasture."

In this work, the flow of swaying water is expressed by a blue blur that crosses the screen diagonally.

The three turtles are depicted floating in the water as if peering down from above.

The bottom one, "Minogame" with algae on its shell, is a symbol of longevity.

Along with the parent turtle, baby and grandchild turtles are also depicted, representing the prosperity of descendants.

This series of flower and bird paintings is in a vertically long format called a "long large format."

It was created as a substitute for an auspicious hanging scroll.

If you look at the actual painting, you will see that Hokusai used indigo pigment for the blue part of the water surface.

Following suit, this shirt is also printed using indigo pigment.

At the time, silver was used for the turtle's head, but since this was not suitable for use on shirts , a silver pigment was used that is closer to the actual color.
