Kamehameha Garment Company was established in 1936 as an auxiliary agency of the military, manufacturing uniforms for the U.S. Army and Navy, and later grew to become one of Hawaii's largest apparel manufacturers.

Kamehameha is the company's brand, and it has left behind many masterpieces, such as anthurium designs utilizing multicolor discharge printing.

One of these is "Gauguin Woodcut," which is highly regarded as a work of art in the vintage market.

This masterpiece was created by textile designer "John Meigs" who collaged print works by painter Paul Gauguin, but in fact, there are two types of designs with different main motif women.

One theory is that the difference is due to a change in the pattern placement during the fabric cutting process.

Another theory is that John Meigs changed the main motif at Kamehameha's request at the time.

Various theories have been whispered, but none go beyond speculation, and it remains a mysterious work.

This time, Sun Surf, in response to many requests, will re-release the "MYSTIC" version (where the main motif woman is standing) that was produced in 2014.
