TAILOR TOYO TT15792-128 Mid 1950s Style Velveteen Souvenir Jacket "ROARING TIGER" x "JAPAN MAP" Embroidered Velveteen Souvenir Jacket, Reversible Two-Tone Satin Fabric with Tiger and Japan Map
A work depicting a tiger seated on a rocky outcrop.
The glossy yellow of the rayon thread stands out against the matte dark navy velvet fabric.
The reversible side features a Japan map pattern on a solid black body .
The moderately deformed tiger embroidery is a size larger than the embroidery on other vintage Sukajan jackets, making for an impactful finish.
Other key features include the word "JAPAN" in a distinctive font and the rising dragon on the sleeve, which is longer than usual.
The fact that the Korean Peninsula is also depicted indicates that this work dates to the mid-1950s.
It also features motifs such as Mount Fuji and a dragon, and a red cherry blossom is placed in the center of the back as an accent, and its perfect balance reflects the sense of the craftsmen of the time.
Many of the early souvenir jackets were reversible and made of acetate fabric, but there were also models made of fuzzy velveteen fabric as variations from that time.
The padding increases the warmth, and the acetate on the reversible side is quilted to hold the padding in place.
