TAILOR TOYO TT15877-128 Late 1950s Style Acetate Souvenir Jacket "HAWAII MAP" x "DRAGON & TIGER" Hawaiian Pattern, Reversible Two-Tone Acetate Fabric, Embroidered on Both Sides

This "Hawaii pattern" Sukajan is extremely rare among works from the late 1950s.

The front features a pineapple on the chest and a map of the Hawaiian Islands on the back.

There are vintage sukajan jackets with a Japanese maiko motif, but this piece is unique in that it replaces the maiko with a Hawaiian hula girl.

The sukajan jackets with overseas motifs such as Hawaii and Alaska seen in the 1950s were produced by Minato Sho (the predecessor of Tailor Toyo) at the request of the US military's Pacific Rim PX Product Procurement Headquarters in Ofuna, Kanagawa Prefecture , and delivered to US military bases.

The reversible side features a Japanese design of a dragon and a tiger glaring at each other.

This Sukajan jacket was sold at a PX (a store on the base) in Hawaii, but because it was exported from Japan, it has the word HAWAII on the back but the design is oriental, making it an eclectic mix of Japanese and Western styles.

The body has a "reverse color scheme" of silver and green, giving it a refreshing finish reminiscent of tropical Hawaii, where bright colors are the main color .

ACETATE SOUVENIR JACKET

This reversible type is the most standard among souvenir jackets, with acetate fabric on both sides .

In the post-war period, Sukajan jackets were made from acetate, a non-controlled material that has a luxurious feel similar to silk.

Since it has no padding, it can be worn in any season, and its unique drape is also an attractive feature.
