The 2 Monkeys' new Phantom model is a boot based on boxing shoes from the first half of the 20th century.

This design, with large panels (quarters) covering both sides, began to be used in the late 19th century for indoor sports shoes such as boxing, wrestling, and basketball. By the mid-20th century, it was also incorporated into work boots (commonly known as monkey boots), and today it is widely used as a design element in sneakers.

The 2 Monkeys Phantom uses an oblique last and extends the quarter to the toe, creating a design commonly seen between the 1910s and 1930s.

Both the outer and inner leathers of the upper are horsehide.

The outer leather is horsehide, softened by rubbing with animal oil, while the lining is lightweight, breathable off-white horsehide. The thin, flat sole is attached with a McKay stitching method.

The black color features a brown core.

The base color is dark brown, so the appearance of the brown core is natural.

The oblique (foot-shaped) last, large side panels (quarters) extending to the toe, and 12 pairs of large eyelets with round laces.

These upper designs are not what is commonly referred to as "monkey boots," but rather recreate the athletic shoes of an earlier era that were their design source.

The leather is horsehide with a moist, supple texture, similar to what was used in athletic shoes of the past.

It is infused with plenty of animal oil and finished by rubbing, making it soft and exceptionally comfortable on the foot.

Natural grain patterns such as wrinkles, veins, blood vessels, and scratches may be present, but these are all part of the unique character of horsehide.

The lining is off-white unfinished (unprocessed grain) horsehide.

It is a lightweight and breathable lining material often used in athletic shoes.

The toe, with its soft leather toe box, flattens with wear.

The black leather features a brown core.

You can enjoy the aging process where natural tones of the brown core emerge.

The flat sole provides excellent grip.
