“Sportif,” a moccasin-style boot with a French vintage flair

The 2 Monkeys “Sportif” boot is designed with the image of boots worn for hunting and outdoor activities in France during the 1920s and 30s.

However, it is not a reproduction of any existing antique boot.

It combines the stylistic elements characteristic of European boots from that period with the moccasin-toe design that was becoming popular in America at the same time.

The upper is made of supple horsehide, ensuring a comfortable fit that conforms perfectly to the foot from the very first wear.

The sole construction particularly embodies the spirit of the era.

By using a Goodyear welt construction for the forefoot and a McKay stitch for the waist and heel, we have recreated the beveled "spade sole" style with its sharply tapered waist.

When looking at the sole from the bottom, this narrowing of the waist is clearly visible.

The heel area features an S-shaped curve. The soft leather faithfully reproduces the shape of the last, while the pitch of the relatively small heel accentuates the curve.

With curves combined throughout the shoe, it achieves an elegant style that resonates with traditional European aesthetics.

A thin, soft leather toe puff is inserted in the toe box.

As you wear them, the toe will flatten and settle, allowing you to enjoy the aging process as the leather conforms down to the very tip.

The forefoot of the sole is reinforced with a 3mm-thick rubber sheet.

The heel top-lift is a 10mm rubber piece. These rubber contact points provide a firm grip to prevent slipping and reduce wear on the sole.

The comfort is exceptionally light and soft, thanks to the combination of the leather's natural properties, our unique construction method, and a highly flexible single leather sole.

Those accustomed to work boots will be surprised by the lightness and the immediate comfort felt the moment you slip them on.

The Sportif last, equivalent to an E width, is designed for a slightly relaxed fit on standard-shaped feet, but even those with narrower feet can achieve a secure fit by tightening the laces, thanks to the softness of the leather.

For those with high insteps or wide feet, choosing a size slightly larger than your actual foot length will not significantly compromise the fit. This is the advantage of the leather conforming to your foot, combined with the tapered waist of the sole.
